Agios Ioannis is a cosmopolitan holiday resort and probably the
best known beach on the Aegean side of Pelion. During the summer months hydrofoils call here on their journey from Skiathos to Thessaloniki. With the right combination of charter flight to Skiathos and connection with the hydrofoil, you could be sunbathing on this pearly-pebbled beach afew short hours from leaving your home. Agios Ioannis has a variey of good tavernas and, in the summer, quite a thriving night life. |
| To the left of Agios Ioannis is the beach of Plaka where the
luxuriant vegetation is seperated from the sea by this beautiful strip of beach. To the right is Papanero (picture) which is reputed to be one of the most beautiful beaches in Greece. High above in the hills above Agios Ioannis are the villages of Agios Dimitrios, Kissos, Anilio and Makriahi on the road back up towards Hania |

Just a kilometre or two along from Papanero are the famous twin
coves of Damouhari. A few houses, a hotel and a couple of tavernas nestle in between these
coves where the colour of the water is simply spell-binding. From the left hand beach (as viewed from the sea) , with its polished round pebbles, leads the old, cobbled mule road up to Tsagarada. The little harbour of Damouhari offers some shelter for boats but waves do roll around the harbour point and make for an uncomfortable mooring. |
