Click here for the latest exchange rates. There are 5 banks:
They all have cash point machines which accept all the usual credit
cards. There are several other exchange offices, and hotels will always change money. In general, you will get a better rate of exchange in Greece than in your home country (they want the foreign exchange!). The Skiathos Post Office is located on the top of Papadiamantis Street, opposite the high school, and has a yellow sign with the letters: "ΤΑΧΥΔΡΟΜΕΙΟΝ" (tahidromio). It is open from 7:30 until 14:30 Monday to Friday and shut all week end. Stamps can often be purchased from tourist shops, supermarkets and kiosks. You may find that your cards arrive home after you do, but this is part of the charm of Greece! The OTE ("otay") telephone office is located half way up Papadiamantis Street on the right hand side. There is direct trunk dialing to anywhere in the world and you must dial "00" followed by the land number of the country you are phoning. You can purchase phone cards at the OTE or from kiosks and many supermarkets. There are lots of phone booths in the town and at most major junctions and bus stops on the main road. See important information about the new Greek dialing codes: click here. There are several Internet service providers on the island:
You can set up accounts with them but usually the minimum is 3 months. There are now several Internet cafes on the island. |
