MEGALI AMMOS & VASSILIA

Megali Ammos & Vassilia Beaches form an almost 2 kilometre long strip of beach that starts from town and ends at the corner of Vassilia.

Megali Ammos is the first beach, that can easily be accessed by foot from Skiathos Town. It has therefore always been popular by the local people and the children. There are several tavernas and a water sports school on Megali Ammos. In the high season the beach can get very busy.

Bus stops 5, 6, 7 & 8 service this section of road and the sea is only ever a couple of minutes walk from each stop.

Behind the road, the land slopes fairly steeply up to the hills of Skiathos and thus these beaches are protected from the strong north wind. The prevailing north-east breeze blows across the bay at right angles to the beach and helps to keep things cool in the summer.

From the beginning of Megali Ammos, there is a road leading steeply up to the right at Villa Ella. This is a dead end road but will take you to the old footpath for Katsarou, Platanias, Kolios, Livetakia & Kechria via the Nancy and Paradise Hotels.

After the Vassilia bus stop (No. 8), a road goes off on the left and will take you up to Katsarou where you will have fabulous views. From Katsarou you can drive to Platanias, Kolios, Livetakia & Kechria.
